(1959) studied Medicine at the University of Amsterdam. In 1987 he started his residency in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and was trained in the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam and in the Medical Centre Alkmaar. Since 1992 he is working in the Spaarne Hospital in Haarlem / Heemstede / Hoofddorp as a staff Consultant Gynaecologist. In 1998 he wrote a PhD-Thesis entitled: Submucous Myomas and Abnormal Uterine Bleeding; epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment. His special field of interest is diagnosis and treatment of the uterine cavity (ultrasonography and hysteroscopy). Between 1999 and 2004 he was board member of Dutch Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (NVOG). He is a National Board Certified Trainer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and he is lecturing at the Technical University Delft, faculty Industrial Design. In 1999 he was awarded as Dutch Inventor of the Year for the development of a new technique called Hysteroscopic Morcellation. In January 2007 an illustrated description of a new technique of contrast transvaginal ultrasonography called Gel Instillation Sonohysterography (GIS), which he developed with his colleague Niek Exalto, was published and on the cover of Fertility and Sterility. |
